Created in 1983 in the spirit of active community service and gratitude for the natural environment, Mar de Jade is far more than a vacation destination. It has founded and continues to support numerous community projects, including regeneration of the land via non-toxic farming methods on a 19-acre organic farm, and an after-school program for local children in Las Varas, a nearby farming village. It’s a warm and nurturing community we love to return to year after year.
Situated on the Pacific coast of Mexico between the sea and tropical mountainside of Chacala Beach, Mar de Jade is surrounded by natural beauty and tranquility. It’s the ideal location to connect with yourself, deepen your practice, and explore the rich and welcoming culture of Mexico.
RETREAT INTENTION & EXPECTATIONS
Yoga ultimately teaches us to find a sense of retreat and refuge within ourselves where we can re-align and re-energize physically, mentally and emotionally regardless of our external circumstances. For many of us, this experience becomes more accessible and profound when we withdraw for an extended period of time from our usual routine and environment to a place that supports mindfulness and slowing down. Without the distractions, responsibilities and stresses of our daily life, we have an opportunity to touch the depth of our practice; to see ourselves more clearly, gain insight and perspective, re-assess our circumstances and weave our new understanding into the way we live our lives.
Our retreat is designed to be a transformative experience and not just a holiday with yoga. As a participant, this means being prepared to work and cultivate ones awareness in class and beyond.
Each day, we will teach two yoga classes in a beautiful studio overlooking the ocean, exploring asanas and pranayamas that connect us with and balance the various aspects of our elemental nature.
There will be an active practice in the morning and a restorative practice in the evening, both suitable for all levels. If you have any physical issues or injuries, we will help you modify for them. The studio has a rope wall and we will make good use of it.
Between yoga sessions, there will be time to explore the area, swim, enjoy delicious food, and simply relax in a hammock by the ocean or the pool. A variety of wonderful spa treatments and bodywork can also be arranged.
There are also excursions available, including a tour of the Altavista petroglyphs, traditional Mexican markets, and nearby villages, but the focus is mainly on the yoga practice and this should be mindfully considered.
